Grow the market for HFCS in Mexico
The market for corn syrup, high fructose (HFCS for short English) continues to grow in Mexico.
It is estimated that this year will grow 3 and 4% to an estimated consumption of 1.52 million tons. The constant movement of sugar from its natural market has been maintained since the 2008 when eliminated import tariffs and quotas between the two countries for sugar.
The size of the sweetener market in North America is 2.5 million tonnes per year
This market has an estimated value in thousand 500 billion, including the most important, sugar and corn syrup.
However, at the same time the producers of HFCS there been increasing its participation in the Mexican market, Mexican sugar industry has gained share in North America but inconsistently. Last year was exported sugar to the U.S. for about 1.5 million tons, record of all time, but this year probably will not spend the 900 tons.
Prices have influenced, but also decisions strategies. When the domestic price paid better, decide not to export mills ignoring the markings and have been gaining. This added pressure on the local price further accelerating the price decline. This is the logic and has been every year.
